About

2 electricians that worked at the Houston Chronicle used to sing twisted little ditties to each other at work to pass the time. One of them was in a real band. He saw the the phrase "Whip Me Beat Me Call Me Edna" on a wall at an Atlanta punk club (1985). They decided that it would make a good tune. It was written and recorded in less than an hour. The only instrument used was a Casio MT68 Keyboard ($170 cheapie). A cassette was sent to KLOL in Houston. Dayna Steele had a program called "Home Tapes". It was never played on the home tapes show, but debuted on the prime time morning show. The song became a hit in many major markets. WABB in Mobile made a really big deal out of it. A DJ locked himself in the control room and played it over and over (scam). Dr Demento liked it, and played it on numerous shows.
